Your Weekly Travel Zen: The Airport

airport

This week's Moment of Travel Zen comes to us from Tom Cyr on the floor of the Madrid airport reading past journal entries and letting the chaos pass him by. The photo was taken by a good friend of his, Chayla Wall, as they wait.

"For airplane rides. For buses and strangers, rucksacks and hoodies. For the hope in new. The joy in silence and the feeling of a new destination. The satisfaction in the final click of your rucksack. The buzz in your veins, the pulsing in your bones. For your momentary pause, the feeling of your head in the clouds. Temporary it may be, it is your wanderlust fulfillment and like a distant lover, it will always call you back."

Ostia Antica, Italy: Just 30 minutes outside the beautiful city of Rome is a great place to break away from all the tourists, street hagglers and city noise. Ostia Antica is a hidden gem in my opinion and is a very peaceful place. On my travel to Italy I was staying in Rome for three days. I had my handy travel guide so I put it to use and saw they had mentioned Ostia Antica as a great place for a day trip. So on my last day in Rome I decided to give this place a chance. I took a train that lasted about a half hour and it was a very nice ride. I finally arrived to Ostia and paid about 8 euro 50 to get into the site. Ostia is a large archeological site and may have been Rome's first colony. There are not many tourists around and so few people know about it that your not really bother. You can really take in and enjoy what this place has to offer. I spent all day there searching around and reading information about how it was when it used to be a fully functioning colony. It was definitely worth it because I wanted to get away from the city and enjoy a place I could take my time and just relax.

Venice, Italy: "The City of Water" Venice is a great place to visit. It's not at all what you expect and it's much more than what you think. It's a city but you don't have the big buildings, automobiles and city noise. On my trip here I got the privilege of couch surfing and mingling with locals. I thought the feel of Venice was quite peaceful with its brightly colored buildings and narrow canals. The only place really that is crazy is the Rialto but for me I like to explore and get lost. I think with the city being surrounded by water it adds a sort of calmness to everything as well. The people there are really great as well, very friendly and outgoing. I can't wait to go back especially for carnivale!

Cataract Gorge, Launceston, Tasmania, Australia: A great place for a day hike if your ever in Launceston. Just about 15 minute walk from the middle of town. With walking and hiking trails, the world's longest single span chairlift, swimming pool, restaurant, kiosk, cafe peacocks and wildlife, beautiful gardens, and suspension bridge your sure to have a great day. I spent a day just exploring and I'm a big wilderness fan and these place was great for me. I went hiking and enjoyed a nice meal at the restaurant. The wilderness is always a peaceful place to get away and just wander.

Scuba diving in Lombok, Indonesia. Seeing marine life in their day to day brings me joy and happiness. It is indeed very peaceful just ?floating? there watching them go about their day.

Here I'm shown meditating on a high cliff near the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. Mountains that make up the southernmost tip of the African continent can be seen in the background. The cliff is near where the Atlantic and Indian oceans collide. This photograph portrays an extremely peaceful, special moment in my travels.

Cliffs of Moher, Ireland: One of the most spectacular places I have been to and seen in my life. Even on a rainy wet day like this one these cliffs still look amazing. I think this is one of the top attractions to visit in Ireland if not the best. You have these cliffs that are 214m high and range for 8 kilometres over the Atlantic Ocean. It was a very peaceful place to visit because of its beauty and looking out into the Atlantic thinking about how great your life is right now.
