The vision of the University of Strathclyde is bold and transformational, placing it among the leading international technological universities. This promises an institution that is vibrant and dynamic which undertakes cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary research, education and knowledge exchange with global partners.
Under the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology in Scotland pooling initiative, recently funded by the Scottish Funding Council, the University of Strathclyde intends to appoint a new post at Senior Lecturer level in Marine Modelling in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The appointee will join the current EU, Scottish Government, N.E.R.C. and E.P.S.R.C funded staff of the MASTS team, which will be augmented over the next 12 months by a number of additional fixed term posts.
The appointee, who will be a quantitative scientist, with a developing national reputation as a numerical modeller of marine biological or ecological systems providing policy orientated management and marine ecology research and advice, will be expected to play a key role in an expansion of policy related research activity in the Department. In order to carry out this role an excellent personal research profile, including high impact publication outputs in the last 5 years, is absolutely essential. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate a track record of working with international bodies engaged in delivering scientific advice to fisheries and marine managers, and in responding to requests for scientific advice from government, non-governmental and media groups. Existing contacts at the policy and research level within governments will be an essential attribute, as will evidence of leadership within competitive international research programmes in both the UK and European arenas.
